To ease you all into our first series ‘Discovering Gemstones’ I thought we could start with a lovely stone know as Kunzite. Kunzite is coloured by manganese and can be found in gorgeous shades of pink and lilac. It falls at 6-7 on the Mohs hardness scale (Sapphire is 9) however the difficulty in setting Kunzite is due to the fact that it has perfect directional cleavage. Kunzite is the sister stone of Hiddenite which is a Spodumene crystal like Kunzite however it is coloured by chromium and is found in emerald green tones. Kunzite is most commonly found in Madagascar. The U.S, Burma and Brazil.
